Land Between the Lakes manages 2 herds of North American Bison. One herd is viewable from the Trace Highway in the Tennessee portion of the property, located directly in front of the 1850’s Homeplace (a working fam and living history museum). The second herd can be seen at the Elk and Bison Prairie, Kentucky portion, visitors explore the wonders of the tallgrass prairie habitat through traveling in their enclosed vehicle via a 3.5-mile paved loop road. Elk and bison roam free within this 700-acre enclosure.
Viewable wildlife is an important feature of Land Between the Lakes. Land managers maintain open lands for watchable wildlife viewing opportunities, habitat diversity and wildlife food plots. Prescribed fire is an important and natural tool in the maintenance of open lands. An abundance of wildlife thrives in these areas, our Welcome Station provide maps and would be glad to help you find wildlife viewing opportunities.Â
Land Between the Lakes is a fishing haven with 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline located between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkly.  Unique access to these lakes is available with almost limitless camping opportunities from backcountry camping to full-service campgrounds.Â
